The Baltic Way
The Aug. 22 game from Tallinn is a marathon in memory of the revolution of the Baltic Republics in 1989 . Thousands and thousands of people formed, holding hands, a huge human chain from Tallinn to Riga Villnius through to claim their independence from the USSR. The demonstrations were held peacefully and gave way to the process of detachment of the three Baltic republics from Russia.
In the center of Tallinn, where he started the marathon, no one seemed much interested in the event. On Independence Square (the first independence in 1929!) Took place at the same time a basketball tournament, stopped for half an hour just for the discrepancy between the President of the Republic. Then suddenly we have seen a couple of riders go. Point. Rather unspectacular.
But according to the group of riders in the country, we realized that the memory of the struggle for independence is still alive. Marathon runners participated in a couple of professionals but also ordinary citizens from the point nearest to their home located on the main road "accompanied" by a mile the runners up in Riga A real tribute to the human chain 20 years ago. Among the attendants have seen it all: old people, families with children in strollers, people in cycling (that?) And in a wheelchair wheel. An entire section of senior women's basketball team (say about 70) and young girls che sventolavano bandierine Estonia.
L'entroterra Eston รจ impressionante. SEMBRA Tues poter toccare il cielo.
